14" and 15" non-widescreen T60 models
-T1300, T1400, T2300, T2300E, T2400, T2500, T2600, T2700, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600 processors work (other Socket M, 667MHz bus Yonah or Merom core cpus may work, too)
-14" and 15" 4:3 display T60 motherboards are interchangeable (15.4" widescreen T60 motherboards are different)
-there were five different graphics chips available for these mobos; Intel integrated video, ATI X1300, ATI X1400, ATI V5200, ATI V5250
-all panels work with all mobos/GPUs; 14" or 15", XGA, SXGA+ or UXGA
-any fan will work with the Intel video mobo, any fan from an ATI GPU mobo will work with any other ATI GPU mobo (however, some fan models had thicker/longer cooling pipes)
-there were seven different mobo variations due to the absence or inclusion of WWAN connetors on the Intel video mobo and ATI X1300 mobo; all the higher end mobos have the WWAN connector; it's best to visually inspect your Intel video mobo or ATI X1300 mobo if you're thinking about adding a WWAN adapter
-the GPUs on the performance video boards run hot (ATI V5200, ATI V5250)

15.4" Widescreen T60 models
-T1300, T1400, T2300, T2300E, T2400, T2500, T2600, T2700, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600 processors work (other Socket M, 667MHz bus Yonah or Merom core cpus may work, too)
-only 15.4" widescreen T60 motherboards can be used (not mobos from 14" or 15" models)
-there were three different graphics chips available for these mobos; Intel integrated video, ATI X1400, ATI V5250
-all panels work with all mobos/GPUs; WXGA, WSXGA+ or WUXGA
-any fan will work with the Intel video mobo, any fan from an ATI GPU mobo will work with any other ATI GPU mobo (however, some fan models had thicker/longer cooling pipes)
-there were four different mobo variations due to the absence or inclusion of WWAN connetors on the Intel video mobo; all the higher end mobos have the WWAN connector; it's best to visually inspect your Intel video mobo if you're thinking about adding a WWAN adapter

You can swap the LCD itself from R60 to T60 and v.v. without any problems.
XGA and SXGA+ use the same LCD cable/inverter.
You need to use the T60 LCD cable/inverter in a T60 and the R60 LCD cable/inverter in an R60.
They may be interchangeable, but my guess is not.

thank you RBS last nigh reading post about processor I see your name and I ask myself what happen with him and here you are Hello.
Another one I got this T60 from eBay and converter to mac with pretty much luck, all work out of the disk, it has crash on me one but I was able to reinstall and it hung in there.
But the processor is CD1.85 and I seeing some CD2 affordable even the 7600 or the 7200 I read all you say about this Processors.
Also found out that you own a T60 with the 2700 and do to the very little need for 64bit but thinking of giving this TP a boost may considering get a 2700 I try to read what people say but got no much perhaps by you owning one you can tell me something.
I have call this morning Intel and ask for the marking on the processor was toll SL8VT if was there a chance for you to tell me if that is right I will appreciated also.
I know you like well written english so I try my best I hope you are not disappoint of this wetback.

RBS
I see you response an I appreciated

SL8VT = T2500
You should be looking for the Intel T2xxx, T5xxx or T7xxx numbers rather than the SLxxx
Look for the versions for PPGA478 socket.
Core Duo
T2400 (1.83GHz, 2MB cache, 667MHz FSB)
T2500 (2.00)
T2600 (2.16)
T2700 (2.33)

Core 2 Duo
T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
T5600 (1.83)

Core 2 Duo
T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB cache, 667MHz FSB)
T7400 (2.16)
T7600 (2.33)

The higher the number, the higher the price!

This link was posted last week. It has the various Intel CPU's for comparison.

I wanted to add that I tried a T5750 into a T60 earlier and it did not work. I've used T5600 chips many times w/ no problems.

You are lucky that did not burn the CPU / mainboard. The T5750 is a socket P processor and can not be used in T60's socket M mainboard.
T5600 is a socket M CPU.

Does every mainboard has the conenctor for it? Just need for replacing the palmrest?

All T60 motherboard variants support the fingerprint reader, you only need the palmrest with the integrated fingerprint reader.

awesome post - thank you!

But um, on the quoted section (just to clarify), you can't put a 14" lcd onto a 15" system though
(or vice versa) correct? Well I know they physically won't fit of course....

And that section really means that any 14" LCD will work in any 14" motherboard, and any 15" LCD will work on any 15" motherboard (or at least that is what I gather from the information provided)?

Actually, since the mobos in the 14" and 15" units are identical, any 14" or 15" LCD will work with any mobo from any 14" or 15" unit. In fact, any 14", 15" or 15.4" LCD will work with any mobo from any T60 machine, but realistically, you may want to select an LCD that fits in the LCD frame you'll be using!

FYI, this post is being type on a T60 that was originally a 14" Intel GPU T60 with XGA, but had a bad mobo. I replaced it with an ATI X1300 GPU mobo from a 15" T60 that had XGA and then upgraded the LCD to SXGA+. So, I'm using a 14" T60 with a mobo from a 15" model with a 14" SXGA+ LCD. T60s are quite flexible.

Furthermore, you could (and I have, for testing) use a 14" or 15" 4:3 LCD with a T60 (or T61, Z60m or Z61m) widescreen mobo. It boots and works perfectly. You just can't attach it to the base very well!

Today I established that you can put the 14.1" standard motherboard from an R60 in a 14.1" T60 chassis.
It is fully screwhole-compatible and all other openings match.
Under where the battery sits, you just need to punch two holes in the black plastic sheet, as these are not used in an R60.
They are the two right-most holes near the dock connector.
R60 does not have Infrared, so you'd lose that.
My mobo had no 1394 Firewire.
The mobo was a 41W5144 with Intel graphics 945GM from an R60 9457-Y1R.
I assume that it will also fit in a 15" model, together with an interposer card.

No.

Bottoms are different as well. The motherboards are the same, though.

hey howdy to RBS, UC, and Akjula! :D

bottom-line....is the perf-diff from T2500 to T7600 worth putting the 7600 in?

2nd question...setting aside spec-sheet numbers etc....in real-world use, especially the typical browsing/reading use, is there a diff. of power-consumption, and if so, which direction?

I'm guessing that a C2D with same cache would run a bit lower-power and cooler...but I wonder about the 7600 with twice the cache... ??

thanks guys! :D
