Hi,
Trying to get a 1TB Scorpio HD to work in a T61. The BIOS HDD diag says the drive is fine, but I can't seem to get the system to boot. Any ideas?
FYI It's a tight squeeze, but the drive does fit......

Hello,
Could you test the drive on another machine ?
When you say that you can't boot the system, what's happenning really ? The system freezes ? A message appears ?
W.

A shot in the dark: Does that drive have a SATA-I /vs/ SATA-II jumper option? I htink some of the drives default to native SATA-II mode (double speed) but some of the hardware controllers can't handle that, so the drives very un-intuitively have to be hard jumpered to SATA-I speed. (And of course no jumper block is supplied.)
There may also be some BIOS options for how to support/treat the drive, if the jumper doesn't do the trick, check those out.

Perhaps because it's a tight fit, it's not making proper contact?

How did you install OS? Drives tend to have a little hole on top that say something like "Do Not Cover". If the tight fit causes the top to be flat against the frame, blocking the hole, the drive won't last long.

Usually, if the BIOS recognized the drive but it can't boot, problem rest with MBR not written properly. Try to rewrite the MBR with an utility such as Super FDISK.
