Is a T500 or W500 LCD Assembly a Direct Swap for a T61 15.4?
The hinges, bezel, cover and latches look the same. Does anyone know if you can swap in an entire LCD assembly from either a T500 or W500? I'd love to try and pick up the webcam feature from a T500 or W500, too. Will the LCD fit and work?! Will the webcam work?!
This would solve the problem of no webcam option for 15.4" widescreen T61's.

The answer is no. The motherboard connector on the LCD cable is different. (newer models are wider)

So the cable connector is physically larger? That is too bad.
Is it possible that the connector is the same size but the cable is wider? This was definitely the case with the Z60m & Z61m models. The cable grew wider with the Z61m, but the connector/cable actually physically fit either motherboard and worked between the two models. (Although, I think I can visually see from motherboard pictures that the T500/W500 connectors are slightly wider...)
What about using the T500 or W500 assembly with a cable from a 15.4" R61 or Z61m? R61 & Z61m 15.4" widescreen models did have a camera option. That might work - wouldn't those connectors be the same size as a T61? Of course, the inverter, microphone, Bluetooth, ThinkLight and camera connector would likely be off - if even the same connector.

The connector is bigger. The Z61 cases are thicker. I would guess the cable would be too long. The hinges also mount differently

Thanks for the info. I will open up the T61 and take a look. It would be nice if there were a quick upgrade solution for a webcam, but there may not be - other than replacing the T61 with a T500!
As a side note, it looks like R500 LCD cables maintained compatibility with R61T61/R60/T60/Z61x motherboard connectors. Unfortunately, the R500 cable is rounded and not flat, so it won't work in the thin T61 lid.

I dont know about the whole assembly but I swapped a t500 screen to a t60. Just swap the internals.. both of mine did not have webcam. It might not fit for webcam..
