Getting new T60p--time to load up on accessories! Help?

#1 Post by hydrostarr » Sun Jul 25, 2010 2:29 pm

Finally, I bought my "new" T60p. Time to stock up on accessories (after I confirm I'm comfortable with the new machine, it actually arrives, and all that...). My machine:

Type: 2007
Serial number: L3-XXXXX (Admin edit: removed serial number for member's protection)
This T60p's parts-list from Lenovo (Admin edit: broke this link as it contained the embedded S/N)

Questions

Standard batteries

I have a whole thread dedicated to this:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=89257

Additional (either in 2nd HDD caddy or replacement) disk drives

Will any 2" SATA 7200rpm drive work, or do I need to find special/compatible drives (for BIOS/boot/etc compatibility)?

I also plan to try out an Intel X25-m flash-SSD drive with this machine, too. (Boot OS from it, put all my data on another.) fwiw, I'm pretty familiar with Flash-storage limitations/constraints/workarounds, but any tips are very welcome.

Additional memory

3GB physical limit on T60's, correct? Is this 2GB in one slot, 1GB in another (assuming only 2 slots)? And will PC2-6400 or any other "later" memory flavor be backwards compatible? (PC2-5300 appears to be what's in it already.)

Ultrabay battery

Seems like http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Advanced_ ... attery_III is the way to go because it seems to support the T4x0 line as well (and I may be buying one of those in the near future). Apparently http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Advanced_Ultrabay_Battery does not. Any other options?

Power (AC and DC) Adapters

First: why would I want 65W vs 90W adapters (other than physical size)? For what things/apps/situations/scenarios would a 90W be required?

Second: Will my fleet of T4x/R52 power adapters (AC adapter P/N = 92P1020, FRU = 92P1021, 72W) work for my T60p? I'm having a hard time finding power-spec specifics.

External battery charger

Check out this one on ibm.com. For my R52/T41, I used a charger that can take 2 batteries plugged into it at once. Any idea if that will charge T60p batteries as well? (Said charger appears to be discontinued...)

2nd HDD caddy

Is this the only/right one?

So that your 2.16 GHz CPU will work at full power when you push it, and your battery can charge in a matter of hours and not days. :?

65W/90W makes senses, very helpful. And good to know (although disappointing) my T4x adapters won't work with my T60p...
