I bought a new HD and installed Windows 7 on it. After a week and a half, it won't boot after the ThinkPad screen. I put my old HD back in and it booted. Kind of a dumb question, but is my new HD dead?

Is the new drive seen in BIOS? It could be bad, but you'll have to run a diagnostic on it to see. Download the diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturers website and run it. It will most likely be a bootable CD.

run the drive as a second drive or usb, etc. while your good drive is up and see if the good drive/Win setup can recognize the crapped out drive at all. Drive could be good, but windows boot record or boot process could be corrupted.
