rescue and recovery not working

I need to bring my T61 back to factory condition. 2 problems:
1) I can't boot to the reserved partition with R&R on it (pressing the thinkvantage button only lists cmos, boot menu (doesn't list factory partition), and resume normal bootup)
2) When I try to create product recovery cd's, none of my drives are listed - neither C, nor my external hd, nor my cd/rw drive (which surprisingly can't write since cd-r's are recognized and autoplays are disabled some how; i've tried to re-enable, but there is no option for this; it shows up as a cd-rom in "my computer" but is correctly referenced in device manager, i've tried mupltiple ways of getting windows to auto install the correct drivers). I've also tried using virtual cd/rw drives, all of which were not recognized at time of attempted cd creation.
