T60 Display Issue
T60 Display Issue
Hello - forum newbie here.
My screen suddenly started suffering from blanking a dew weeks ago
I could make it come on momentarily by toggling the F7 for external display - it would come on briefly for a few seconds then go out again.
After some research I found what I thought to be inverter issue:
Upon closer inspection, I could see the faint outline of the image on the screen, but no back-light.
So - inverters are cheap so no real harm to replace.
Now, after replacement however, the symptoms are slightly different, but ultimately ends with same conclusion.
It now will run for quite a bit longer than it did with the old, original inverter;
but eventually it will also blank (but much longer to get to that stage)
Generally, before that however, screen tends to flicker
I notice there is audible pitch that increases if you increase the brighness control (Fm Home)
And conversely, lower the brightness can virtually eliminate the 'hiss' and improves the stability of the image
So - having replaced the inverter (I actually have two) does this now confrim that issue is the TFT backlight itself?
i.e. only solution now is to replace the screen?
p.s. I should add this is 14" SXGA+
Laptop is Model T60 2007-49U

Re: T60 Display Issue
Yes. It sounds like the backlight, but you should make sure it is not a software problem. Boot into the BIOS and wait. It the screen goes out, it is the backlight.
Re: T60 Display Issue
Appreciate reply
If it was software however (which I'm sure it's not) then it would be issue with external display also, surely?
But yes, does same in BIOS screen.
Anyone have recommendation for replacement vendor?
I see a few on E-Bay @ ~ $100

Re: T60 Display Issue
Are you looking for a panel, or an assembly? (I may have one)
Re: T60 Display Issue
Would consider either depending on the price
Quite capable of replacing just the panel
Are you in the City or ?
(I'm down in East Bay)
Drop me PM if you have something

The GPU has two independent outputs, a digital one to the LCD and an analog one to the external VGA port.decosse wrote:If it was software however (which I'm sure it's not) then it would be issue with external display also, surely?
One can be defective while the other is still working.
