Windows update finds a driver for the X1400, and it seems to work (haven't tried any games, though). However, in the original Windows XP install there was an ATI control panel that allowed tweaking of the graphics, including an option for power savings mode. I can't seem to find any X1400 software for Windows 7 except the basic driver that Windows Update found. The ATI "support" site seems to try pretty hard at being no help at all. Even this hidden page is useless: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx The gist of it seems to be that the X1400 is not supported in Windows 7, please buy a new laptop with a more up to date graphics solution.
I also found this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66884 version 8.383.1.1 but it is for Vista and from 2007! The XP driver is 2 years newer. I figured that Windows 7 might have a good idea about what it needs, so I let it install the X1400 driver it found, v8.561.0.0. The newest XP driver on IBM's site seems to be v8.593.100.7.
So what drivers/software does everyone use with the T60/X1400 in Windows 7? I especially miss the underclocking/power saving feature for the X1400. Does Windows 7 perhaps do this itself? Are there any other options for throttling the X1400 down when I don't need it?
Thanks for reading,
TravisD
X1400 drivers in Windows 7
Re: X1400 drivers in Windows 7
I went ahead and tried installing the above mentioned Vista drivers for the X1400 from Lenovo's site and my WPI went down from 3.9 to 3.8. It seems to be working OK, but I haven't tested extensively.
