ThinkPad T61 7663-13U

#1 Post by atgsgold » Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:16 pm

Hello,

I have had ThinkPad T61 7663-13U notebook for about 2 years and the fan died. The notebook is in very good condition. No scratches on body and LCD display. I even upgraded to 2GB DDR2. All hard drive data is erased.

I am thinking of selling it and I wonder if any of you can appraise this laptop with dead fan and no OS.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
Product: ThinkPad T61 7663-13U Original description: T7500(2.2GHz), 1GB RAM --> now 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled) wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32, 90w AC adapter
Above are the spec's for the macine. It would help to know 1) how much warranty is remaining, if any (many T61's had 3 year warranties, 2) if the Vista recovery partition is still intact OR if recovery disks are included, 3) the battery cycles and full charge capacity, and 4) if you're sure it's a dead fan (sometimes a non-working fan really is a bad motherboard - not an issue if it's still under warranty).

If it's under warranty, you should send it in for repair, if not, you might consider buying the correct fan via eBay or this forum for about $25 and fixing it - that would eliminate doubts about an expensive motherboard issue.

I don't have much experience with T61's, so I can not estimate it's worth, but providing answers to the above should help others with more experience provide some pricing insight.

Hi,

The specs are correct.

if the Vista recovery partition is still intact OR if recovery disks are included

> no, the partition is gone. no recovery disks are included

3) the battery cycles and full charge capacity

> it was fully charged when computer was still running; this laptop has been sitting in the closet for almost one year and the battery has not been used for that long

4) if you're sure it's a dead fan

I am not sure if it is the fan but the fan was making loud noise .... also when I started the laptop, DOS showed me a fan failure notice. that's why I think it is the fan but again I am not sure.

laptop is out of warranty.

Question:

1) where can I buy a fan for this laptop on this forum? I bought a fan from eBay and the seller sent me twice the wrong one. eBay is off limit - I don't like eBay sellers. eBay to me is like a big jungle with a lot of shady sellers.

2) can you upgrade this laptop to Vista 7, and if yes, where can you get the drivers for it? if not, can you buy Vista recovery partition on this forum?

lastly, how much would you appraise this laptop if I sell it as-is?

thanks
