Anyone have good luck with laptopaid off ebay? I didn't

#1 Post by alkemyst » Thu Sep 09, 2010 11:42 am

Just an FYI for those looking for items as they seem to have a lot at really good prices. I chalked up the negatives they have due to buyer error...funny I should be burned by it.

Anyway they listed everything 100% working, perfect. Apparently they don't really verify anything and as many have found out a week+ later, the item is damaged.

I did get a full refund and left negative as I should.

Thing that stinks is this was the only part I am waiting on to swap my LCD...now it gets pushed to next week. Second inconvenience was they credited back the card I used...normally this is fine, however that card was paid off since and I was in the process of closing it due to a rate hike. Now I have to wait on a check from them.

I see a couple of complaints about them at this site below, and an example:

http://www.viewpoints.com/LaptopAid-us-reviews
"Terrible experience. We receive and install used laptop motherboards every week.
We tested our first laptop from LaptopAid.com, which came DOA.
We notified them three times by email and left two voicemails which have not been returned.
Their LIVE SUPPORT icon doesn't work in Firefox or IE.
Not sure what else to say..."
However, they do seem to have almost 85,000 positive ratings on eBay, and there are only two bad reviews out of three on that complaint site.

I average two or three orders from LaptopAid every week, hundreds of parts in all. I've had problems with less than 1% of what I've bought overall, and when I have had problems, they respond to my email within an hour just to say that my replacement part is on the way, don't bother to send bad one back.

I use them all the time successfully, but I try not to order any complex parts (like an LCD) from them.

I've used them a couple of times for hard drives, some of these were duds, but the replacements were sent out immediately, without request for the return of the defective part.

Every now and again, regardless of how well one tests the item, there will be a defect that shows up right at the customer's location. Stuff happens. As long as I get a refund or a proper replacement part, I don't complain. It's a part of business, whether buying or selling.

You that had problems, were the items also listed as 100% perfect like every item they sell.

What I am thinking is they are just moving gear, no testing at all. 9 times out of 10 things continue to work.

I wouldn't recommend them for anyone that has a machine on their bench that they are trying to get off.

Fortunately my next purchased shipped within 2 hours of my payment and coming to me from Texas so it may even get here today.

That is my experience and guess, too. Everything is listed as excellent condition, but in reality it's luck of the draw.

At least they process refunds very quicly.

i just realized by bluetooth was ordered from them, 9 days ago now...i sent them an email, hopefully its coming.

Also wanted to add almost none of the 41W4504 screw kits on ebay are legitimate. Most are sending used screws and about half what the real IBM kit comes with (which is only $2.65 + $10 min shipping). You also get none of the wire tape with those on ebay.

I ordered 5 packs.
