is this ok for t60

#1 Post by ianf » Tue Sep 14, 2010 6:04 pm

hello
is this drive ok for my t60 i just put in a 320gb but by the time i install all the os i want the partitions are all a bit small ,the drive in question is this Toshiba MK5056GSY its 9.5mm high and a 7200 with 16mb cache , i would like bigger but that should do.

my next question forgive my sillyness on this but i have a new pair of 3.5" hdd is there a way i can use them as a raid stripe and use the mini pci-e port as this would be quicker than useing them in a caddy through usb 2 port.

also the tubo cache having this helps what and how , is it a gimic.

thanks ian

The Toshiba sounds like a generic SATA HDD and so should work in the T60. They make a 500Gb one too. 500GB at 7200rpm should be nice.

With your 3.5" drives you can look at an e-SATA RAID solution. Get an e-SATA ExpressCard adaptor with 2 ports. Hook up both those drives and you can RAID them!

Even if you don't use the RAID functionality, the e-SATA connection is faster than USB when copying loads of large files.

thanks for that
guess i have to power the drives externally as the drives i have are 3.5" i think these cards are the cheap china ones and do they plug into the upper port that would give me stripe raid 1tb of storage rather than filling up my internal 320gb ,also are there many gains from using the turbo cache cards and if i fitted one say 2gb would there be a conflict with the external sata to pci-e card or does this bus run like usb.
one final thing i have searched to see what other cards can use this port i was hoping maybe an hdmi or a better graphics card.

thanks ian
