T60 Cursor clicking by itself

#1 Post by rebelstrong » Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:08 am

T60 with Windows 7

Have had this computer for about two years now, and this issue just began a couple days ago.
The cursor randomly begins to spam click without me initiating it or even touching the computer. Spamming left clicks and right clicks in no particular order, rapidly. I still have full control over the movement of the cursor, but it will click on whatever it moves over, closing windows left and right.

When I manage to navigate to my desktop, as I move the cursor around it will create/drag selection boxes but I can't release/unselect them.

I can't find anything in the drivers/hardware managers that look like it'd allow me to disable the touch pad. I've uninstalled the PS/2 Compatible Mouse because it's the only device listed under Mouse unless I had my wireless mouse plugged in.

Restarting yields no help. One of the times I restarted I got a message saying my Windows was not genuine and a page telling me why it should be, but I could just hit continue and be on my way. I've ran Malwarebytes and nothing showed up. Could it possibly be a trojan or a virus?

Try disabling the touchpad in BIOS. (Hold down F1 on boot)

disabling the touchpad like that does resolve the issue, however when it's re-enabled, the problem resurfaces. I'd like to be able to actually use the touchpad again eventually thought. Any troubleshooting resources for an issue like this?

Troubleshooting? Yes, you've done it...mostly. Boot up a Linux Live CD (like Linux Mint). It it fails there replace the Palm Rest or Touchpad asm.
