That is what my original question was about and I installed one in my TP T61p.

I like the drive.
When it works properly, it works great.
Much faster boot, application starts, etc.
Plus, having 5x the storage space is very nice indeed.

Having said this, I would suggest that you become more familiar with the drive before you buy one.
Surf over to the Seagate forums and read ... and give yourself lots of time because there is a TON to read.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the drive.
But Seagate needs to do some work to get them working the way they should, all the time.
And they are working on it.

I got mine for $120 CDN and given the price, the capacity, and the improvements in performance (when it is working), I am happy.
Would I like it to be perfect? Of course.
Is anything in life perfect? Nope, not a chance.
So, I accept the little issues I've been having because they are less than the issues I would have returning/exchanging it, reinstalling the OS and all my stuff, etc.

To tell the truth, I am a little confused by the Seagate forum.

My 'plain vanilla' T60 has a crammed 80 GB disk, and I would be glad to get a faster and larger hard disk, that will be reliable as well.

If the Momentus XT is not reliable, then maybe I should look towards something like a WD Scorpio Black maybe?

Regards,
N.F.

I just installed a 500 GB Momentus Hybrid in my T61 with Windows XP SP3.
I upgraded the firmware to SD25 but can't get more than 127GB of the Drive to be recognized.
I know I must be missing something easy - any advise would be most appreciated

Started getting the following:

"ERROR

2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initiailization error (1)

Press <ESC> to continue"

Any thoughts on what that really means?

Recognized by what? Your disk imaging software or the operating system? I had no problem moving my Window 7 and XP partitions to the XT using Ghost 8.3 (i.e. Ghost Solutions Suite 1.1 which is the enterprise version of Norton Ghost).

Gave up trying to do a fresh Install with Win XP on the T61
Used Seagate's DiscWizard Software to copy the old Hard Drive with Windows & onto the Momentus Hybrid & everything went fine
I installed the Momentus Hybrid in the normal Hard Drive position in the T61, put the old hard Drive in an UltraBay enclosure & the copy process was quick & easy ll
The full 500 GB is recognized & programs load much faster than they did on my old T30.
That's probably a combination of the faster processor in the T61 (2.4 GHz), more memory (4GBs) & the Hard Drive.
I've been running just over 2-3 weeks now, & am very pleased

I just installed my second Seagate Monumentus XT drive.

The difference is unbelieveable!
The drive is operating the way I expected it should have all along.
Quiet (can't even tell it is there) and the biggest difference I have noticed? The lack of heat coming from the palm rest!
There must have been something really off with the previous drive to have been throwing that much heat all the time.

Besides noticing that my palm rest is not as warm, TPFanControl is reporting lower temps.
