Issue with IE8 on my T60, HELP please.

#1 Post by alofano » Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:04 am

Does anyone have or had or knows about this issue ? On my T60 I get this quite often. While surfing I get a IE message telling me that ..." This tab has be recovered ... a problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." I have never saw this ever. I am NOT getting this on my DeskTop. I hope this is not a serious problem. Thanks to all.

Install Firefox. Does it fail there too? If not you have an IE8 problem. Reinstall it or repair Windows.

Google search result:

Suggestion 1: Reset Internet Explorer settings
1. Please open Internet Explorer, click "Tools", and click "Internet Options".
2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab.
3. Refer to "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" section, and click "Reset".
4. Click "Close" when the resetting process is complete.
5. Close Internet Explorer and restart it.

Suggestion 2: Run IE without Add-ons
1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
2. Visit website in this IE.

Hi Kevin247. I am having this issue when using kybd laptop and when using an external kybd attached to my dock, so I do not think it could be a kybd issue but I can be wrong !

This is very likely a software (specifically IE) related issue and not a thinkpad-specific (or even hardware-specific) issue. Definitely give amujee's steps a shot, I've had it resolve many IE issues on customer machines. Also make sure you go through your addons in IE and pull everything out of there. If that doesn't work, judging from your signature, you're running XP, which means you can actually uninstall IE8, reverting back to either IE7 or IE6 (depending on your upgrade path) and allow you to reinstall IE8 from there. Set your folder options in windows explorer to "show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide protected operating system files" From there, navigate to WINDOWS/ie8/spuninst.exe The executable will remove IE8 from your system, allowing you to reinstall.

Hope that helps!

It just happened to me again. It occurred on the first keystroke typing onto a forum webpage, the error message came up, the page was recovered. I repeated the process, same thing happened on the first keystroke. On the third attempt it worked ok no error message. I also have never seen this happen on any other machine I use past or present.
