6459-CTO. I do not see Firewire in Device Manager nor BIOS. I do have the mini-Firewire connector at the front left of the computer. What am I missing? The motherboard on this machine has been replaced twice for NVIDIA burnouts. Is it possible I didn't get a 61/p motherboard, although I do have the socket? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a T61 6460-8NG. It has a tiny 1394 socket at front left like yours. I have never tried to use it.
Device Mgr lists IEEE 1394 Bus host controller and a RICOH 1394 OHCI compliant host controller.
which is shown in Properties as "working normally"! So I have always assumed it would work if asked to.

What is the specified config for your system? You might like to check at:
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/ and look for the appropriate index of withdrawn systems.

Thanks for the reply and the link. Since I have used the 1394 port in the past, I know it should work. I am suspicious of the motherboard because of the technician reflashing the BIOS after the initial attempt to transfer the model and serial number to the new(est) motherboard using the HMD would not work. He took the machine away and returned it the next day with the serial number and model number showing up in the BIOS. When I asked what had been done, he said he had reflashed the BIOS. It was't until several weeks later that I found the 1394 port inoperative and not appearing in Device Manager. The current BIOS on the machine is listed as 7LETC7WW (2.27) which I believe is the most current BIOS.

make sure it is enabled in the bios, under security/i-o port access

Thanks,Rich, but as I said, there is no 1394 device listed in the BIOS nor in the Security/ IO Port Access list. I even used the F9 restore default BIOS settings and then looked again. Can't enable what's not listed.
