I may be looking to upgrade my t60 widescreen from 1.66ghz up to a 2.33 but i wonder how much of a difference in heat it will put out. Right now it barely if ever gets hot. Im also considering doing the same in a widescreen t60p i have but before i do i want to make sure it wont run too hot.

I upped my T60p from a T2400 to a T7600. It's a little snappier and boots a bit faster. I'd guess, in retrospect, it probably wasn't worth the cost - think the CPU ran about $160 on a decent eBay deal a year or so ago.

get a t7400 they are pretty cheap now. the t7600 isn't worth it unless you can find the g version.

Interesting, boot times and general responsiveness is usually more related to the hard drive speed than the CPU, which is why SSDs make systems seem more snappy.

Do the 2.33s run noticibly hotter than the 2ghz and under?

[ sorry for hijacking the thread ]
From a quick check, from the T7400 and above, the prices on Ebay are ridiculous in my opinion.
I have a T5500 T60 (1.66 GHz), I suppose the T7200 is the upper reasonable limit for a CPU upgrade. Did anybody else notice an improvement, keeping the other elements intact?
A question: The fan/heatsink that exists in the current T60 (T5500) works with the T7x00 processors as well?
Regards, and I wish everybody a Happy New Year,

I have never found that most of the cpu upgrades are worth the cost and effort, except in extreme cases, like replacing a celeron with a dual core cpu.
The heatsink and fan do not change.

Even more so than the performance boost you'd get from upgrading from a Celeron to a dual-core CPU, probably the biggest benefit of a dual core is the fact you get speedstep with a dual core. I'd totally agree, unless you're pushing the CPU frequently, upgrading the CPU is a waste of time and money.
