Hi guys.
I decided to upgrade my laptop to Windows 7. To ensure I could go back to factory settings, I chose to format the IBM_Preload partition and install 7 on there, and leave the IBM_Service partition alone.
Upon completion of windows 7, everything works fine, however when I hit the blue Thinkvantage button at startup, I get a menu to resume startup, enter BIOS and something else, but not the usual loading screen of Rescue and Recovery.
Now Im thinking it is because Rescue and Recovery isnt currently installed. Do I install the Windows 7 R&R or do I install the original xp R&R
Any help welcome.
Installed Windows 7, no Rescue and Recovery option on boot
Re: Installed Windows 7, no Rescue and Recovery option on boot
OK I tried to install R&R for Windows 7 and it gets so far and says a file is missing
As expected the XP version says incorrect OS
So would the only way to sort this be to install XP in place of Windows 7, install the XP R&R and then do the restore that way?
Im a bit miffed that Ive lost access to the restore system!

Re: Installed Windows 7, no Rescue and Recovery option on boot
The problem is that whenever you install an operating system [Windows XP, Windows 7, Linux, etc.], the bootloader needed by Rescue and Recovery is overwritten. Using the GRUB bootloader of Linux, it is possible to modify the menu.lst file so that Rescue and Recovery can boot. I have tried this in the past, and it did work (however I did not try a restore).

With the original OS installed [Windows XP], you can restore the bootloader using the 'Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair media'.
