Largest T61 Hard Drive

#1 Post by Meta03 » Tue Oct 26, 2010 9:11 pm

What is the largest hard drive available for T61?

Also, are hard drives compatible between T43 and T61?

9.5mm 750GB would be the largest I believe. I am not sure if the T61 supports 12.5mm high drives. If it does then 1TB is the largest. T43 drives will not work. IDE vs SATA interfaces.

I'm not sure of the specific reason behind the OP's question, but a huge boot drive isn't necessarily a good thing. I'd sooner have a large capacity drive in the Ultrabay, or as an external.

I'd ask who's providing the warranty? Typically re-certified drives don't come with a five year warranty. You can buy a new here for less.

Super! Thank you, Fred. This one will do just fine, and it is a Western Digital, my favorite.

I'm on the verge (probably) of buying a used T61 and have a brand new unused Samsung 640GB 2.5" 9.5mm HD. Will this work well as a boot drive? AFAIK, a 2nd drive would mean I'd need an adapter and forego an optical drive.

Yes it will work as a boot drive. For a second drive you'd need an SATA 2nd hard drive adapter, and yes it goes in the Ultrabay slim slot where the optical drive goes.

If that T61 has nVidia graphics, walk away while you can!
The GPU has a design error and is guaranteed to fail, requiring a new motherboard!
In that case, get a mobo with integrated Intel graphics, which does not have that problem.

Thanks, I'm going to avoid the ones with nVidia graphics. Are the T61's with integrated Intel graphics and the 14.1" screen pretty OK as a rule?
