I purchased (October 2009) a StarTech ECESATA1 (ExpressCard to eSATA) and I have been very pleased with it. I ESPECIALLY like that it is flush mounted as my laptop goes in & out of my briefcase a couple of times a day. It works fine when the laptop is in or out of the dock. It is available at Buy.com for $27.

Per the specs at: http://us.startech.com/product/ECESATA1 ... apter-Card it uses the SIL3132 chipset.

Have you tried to benchmark the datatransfer rate using the expresscard and an SSD? Does the 2.5 Gbits bandwidth of the slot limit it?

I only have one SSD, which is my C Drive, so I am not sure how this would be done?
If you give me a bit of guidance I am willing to give it a try. I am far from a Super Geek (which I would consider a compliment), more like someone who is on the trailing edge of the bleeding edge of technology.

Mine:

Thinkpad T60p with Mushkin 90GB (Sandforce 1200 controller).

Update:
I tried again, this time on AC-power instead of battery with a slight improvement of performance.

And for comparison here is a Kingspec 64GB PATA SSD installed in my Thinkpad X40. I've had it for a bit over an year and with it the X40 has often felt quite a bit speedier than my T60p when the latter only had a HDD.
The downside was that the Kingspec totally failed on me last August but it was promptly replaced by the seller, memoryc.com.

Installed as per my forum instructions: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 39#p721339

Seems quicker... Not amazingly fast, but I'm just web surfing mostly....
