T60 Motherboard problem?
Dear Folks,
Hello from Kuala Lumpur. I am new to the forum, which I found on-line looking for help with my T60P. Please let me know if I'm not following protocol or otherwise doing something out of line.
My computer went on the blink last week. The screen started going crazy (external monitor too) and it boots only every fourth time or so. The times it doesn't boot it gives a blue screen message that reads, as best as I can tell:
Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NM1: Parity check ???momo??? Parity error The System ?????alto???*
When I am able to boot up, it works for a while then the screen goes squiggly and I soon can't read it.
i have a picture of it but can't figure out how to upload. If anyone wants to see the picture and can tell me how to upload, I'll do so.
I called Lenovo support here and the guy thought it might be the motherboard. I thought I'd see if anyone else might know before I take the computer in so I can go with some knowledge.
Many thanks for your help!
Bob

Re: T60 Motherboard problem?
If you have 2 memory chips, try running with one. (may be bad memory) If you have only one, try a different one if you can.

Re: T60 Motherboard problem?
Gentlemen, thank you again for your help with this. The machine seems to be up and running. I took out my two RAM chips and cleaned up the inside some. I thought one chip seemed to be the problem but I've now got them both in and seem to be running OK. Thank you for your suggestions.
Best regards,
Bob

Sometimes the memory contacts can get some grease on them. I suggest cleaning them with alcohol.

Re: T60 Motherboard problem?
Hello again, Folks,
My Blue Screen appeared again last week and nothing I did fixed it. I went to the local Lenovo service center here and the technician said "motherboard" as soon as he saw the screen.
I'm out of warranty at this point. They said a new motherboard would cost about $300 but I've seen a large span of prices when searching for new motherboards on-line.
Is there one particular model or brand motherboard I should consider as a replacement?
While I'm at this, if I get a new hard drive, will Windows 7 run on this machine? I've got 3GB of RAM and the Core Duo 7200 (?) CPU.
Many thanks to you all for your help!

Re: T60 Motherboard problem?
Win7 should run fine on your maschine - and also using your existing HDD. But if you get a new HDD you could use the old one in a Ultrabay Slim which can be found cheap on Ebay. It needs to be for a SATA HDD
