T60 hard drive caddy

#1 Post by Muse » Sun Oct 31, 2010 1:06 pm

I see a T60 being sold without a HD or HD caddy. I have a HD. Is a caddy necessary to install the boot HD?

It'll work, but it's probably not recommended. You don't want it moving around in there. Caddies are pretty cheap in on ebay.

Thanks. I see them selling shipped for less than $4 from Hong Kong. Not positive it's the right parts but I think so. For instance:

If your T60 is a 15" machine, then that's the part.
The caddy and rails are all the same for all models. The differing part is the HD cover.
You can also use the caddy from e.g. a T4x or R5x and attach a pull-out lip using e.g. duct tape.

And no reason to buy these from China if you can avoid it. I have bought a couple of caddys for different machines, and there are loads of US sellers selling these as well. Maybe a couple of dollars more expensive to buy them from the US, but they arrive in 3 days instead of 3 weeks.

I was thinking similarly yesterday and I ordered from NY. Not even a dollar more than from Hong Kong. I got one specific to 14" models, as that's the type of machine I just bought. I won't need to wait for the caddy. Cost me $4.90 shipped. The seller informed me that it shipped almost immediately. Should arrive before the T60.

Do you have the link for your NY source? I need a caddy & drive door for my T60P.

All 14", shipping from US. I've used nycom-tech several times with no problems, second from top.

That's the exact seller I bought from and it was $4.90 shipped, arrived way before my T60 and it worked perfectly. It even included the drive cover, which it turned out I did need, phew!

Thanks guys, just ordered hard drive caddy & door a few minutes ago from nycom-tech. Ebay & Paypal almost makes it too easy.
