T-series 'best of breed'?

So far I've owned a T20, T30 and now a T60. They've all been good to me, each one getting better & better wrt performance/features/quality, etc..

However, at some point I'll new a new laptop so I was just wondering what the general consensus is regarding what everyone thinks is the 'best of the breed' when it comes to the T series?

The new T410/T510 are as nice as it gets. T60 is still nicer in a few aspects, IMO (non-widescreen, higher resolutions, IPS options, keyboard, some advantages in docking options), but it is getting long in the tooth. Performance-wise and feature-wise, it is no match to the new machines.

Alas, I'm kinda stuck needing the older variety since I need a PCMCIA slot.

So you think the T-60 is about as good as it got before the T410/510?

Design-wise, I say yes. Performance-wise, T60 is handicapped mostly by two things: 3GB RAM limit and SATA1 speeds on the hard drive (which is only a handicap if you use SSDs, and even then the real performance penalty is not so terrible). As far as features go, there wasn't much innovation involved in the T61/T400/T500 generation, and the exterior design was just... yuck.

However, if PCMCIA is a must for you, and adapters are out of question - consider a T400/T500.

Considering that the W510 is a more powerful version of T510, wouldn't you say the W510 is the "best of breed"? The T510 is equivalent to the 15.0" T60, whereas the W510 is equivalent to the 15.0" T60p.

To me T510 and W510 are still the same laptop. :) Even though it has to be said Lenovo started putting in serious differentiating features into the W series (USB3 , 4 memory slots).

So yes, you are right. If one is willing to pay the price and take the size/weight penalty, W510 is as best as the series gets. :D

Fixed, hahaha.
