I've just cracked the LCD screen on my Lenovo T60 and have an old T40 sitting in the cupboard and the screen sizes match.
T60 = 1951-A35
T40 = 2373-75M
Are they compatible? Can i just swap it out?

Most likely not.
The T6x screens have a so-called EDID-chip on them, which controls timing etc.
T4x screens don't have this (usually), or if there, it's not programmed.
Without the correct(ly programmed) EDID, most so-called 'compatible' screens as found on eBay, don't work.
You need to look for an original replacement LCD with IBM/Lenovo P/N or FRU on it.
When buying online, insist on seeing actual pictures of the back of the LCD and all the labels.

What I understand is that if the EDID chip is present, it can be programmed.
But such an old T40 will not have the EDID chip, unless the screen has been replaced in recent years.

bugger, i was hoping for a quick swap and fix.
Lenovo quoted $1,200 for a genuine replacement

so it looks like it's back to the T40 work horse
