Another t60 question

#1 Post by T60 thinkpaaaD » Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:16 am

I was looking at the T60 HMM.
Note: Due to limitations of the current 32bit PC architecture, actual usable memory size is limited to 3 GB even though the physical installabe memory siz is 4 GB bla bla bla

Does this mean i'll get 4 GB of ram usage when i upgrade to 64 bit ?

No, on a T60 it's an architecture (chipset) limit....@3GB total usable RAM. The OS (or 32bit vs 64bit) is irrelevant. Unless it's a Core 2 Duo T60 you would not be able to run a 64bit OS anyway.

Thank You and about the harddrive upgrade. In the HMM, it says:
Supported harddrives are deppendent on the model

Mines a T60 1952.

Does that mean i want be able to get any 1 TB Internal HD that i was planning of buying ?

Say this one for example http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOSHIBA-1000GB-1T ... 3cb07fd47c

The HMM says it supports 5400RPM but doesn't reference to anything higher then 120 GB and all so doesn't say about any make or model

There's no problem with the 1TB capacity or speed, it's the drive height that will be incompatible on that one. You need a 9.5mm high drive.

Oh, right that's what that means and at the moment the highest 9.5 mm that will fit goes up to 750 GB.

This one for example:

Thanks man appreciate it.

I have one of these, yes the reviews at Newegg were stellar across the board (about a dozen of them IIRC) a month ago when I ordered mine. Haven't opened the box yet, but will soon. Was planning to put it in my T60, but the last month my plans have changed... I bought a refurb T61 and it will go in there. It will be my biggest HD to date, including my 2 desktops! I'm wondering if I should partition it and how when I install Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I'm thinking a data partition would be cool, but wonder if I leave another partition, say 30GB, could I later install another OS, say a Linux distro, or even a 2nd install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, for testing purposes (i.e. maybe 3 OS partitions)? There's a lot of room on that drive! I ordered it on Oct. 14, it arrived Oct. 18, I guess I better install it pronto to make sure it works or maybe I won't have return privileges at Newegg. Not sure if the 30 days (I assume it's that) is from order date or receive data).

Newegg return items have to be back AT Newegg before the 30 days since delivery are over!

And if you want to keep some spare partition(s) for other stuff, don't skimp, allocate them at least 50GB each.

Thanks! Can't this morning but I'll install the drive tonight and make sure it's OK. If not, I'll have to overnight it to the Egg, I suppose.

It will be OK to install additional OSs later? I may not, but I want to weigh my options.
