OS change after recovery

My daughter has a T61 that was running Vista. It became bogged down so bad that she decided to use the six recovery discs that came with it to get it back to as the disc states "like it came from the factory". The process went very well, but when we booted it up after the reinstall, it is now running XP. Not that she minds all that much, but she was used to Vista. Also, her wireless is no longer working. Does anyone know why the OS would change? It ran Vista when it was new, right out of the box. How can we get her wireless running again?

I am guessing you got the T61 in 2007-2008 when the Windows downgrade right was offered. The systems with Vista Business or Ultimate preloads have the Windows XP recovery discs enclosed for those who want to run the earlier operating system. You needed to make the Vista recovery discs yourself.

If your system is still under warranty call up Lenovo support and they might send you a set of Vista recovery discs.

Use a wired connection to download and install the wireless drivers.

System Update 3.14 will do it all for you. Use a wired connection to download it from here:

[Note: Now that you have XP, keep it or go to Windows 7. Hard to think of a reason to run Vista!]

That is correct. While Vista was still running your Daughter should have made a set of Vista recovery discs. Now it is too late.

Thanks for the replies. She wanted the Vista Business OS because she is an accountant major in school, but she doesn't seem to mind XP. I will try your suggestions to get her wireless working.
Thanks much!!
