Hi.
Just got my 2º hand T60.
Everything was fine until I updated the BIOS from 2.11 to 2.26.

No problem in the update.
Loaded Xp (SP3) and no problem detected. But then reading the 'guide' for BIOS update from Lenovo, I realized that I needed to 'Load Default' configuration' (F9) and then F10 to save. After restart: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down... 0x0000007B (0xBA4CF524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Googled it and it seems it was something regarding HDD controller. When to BIOS and changed SATA from AHCI to Compatibility and Windows started with no problems.

Searched here also and some say it must be on AHCI...

The XP was pre-loaded by the previous owner.

Could someone please enlight me about this, please.

The AHCI driver probably was not installed at the same time Win XP was installed (F6 - supply driver disc) so drives running in AHCI mode will not be seen by Windows. Easy to fix in Win 7, one registry change, but Win XP usually requires a reinstall.

Here is link that shows how to do it without a reinstall. I've never tried it so can't recommend the method but you're not giving up much by staying in Compatibility mode.

Bug check 0x7b is "inaccessible boot device" which is perfectly consistent with what you did. Keep in in compatibility mode, or go Win7.

Just checked the link and is for desktop boards. Don't know if applies to laptops also.

I've been doing some more research and from this (http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo- ... stall.html) XP clean install, it seems the problem is related with Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver and the fact that the previous instalation was done in Compatibility mode, from the link posted above (thank you, 91011).

Question is, can I install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver now, 'over' the XP already installed?

This problem is quite simple to fix. On boot up, enter BIOS and find the menu selection set up your hard disk drive. You will be presented with two options: "Compatibility" mode, and "AHCI" mode. Select "Compatibility" mode and reboot. Your laptop will now be able to read your hard drive and load Windows normally. If you're satisfied with the performance, you can leave it at that. The only reason to use AHCI mode is to gain a very slight increase in performance. If you desire to use it, it is now a simple matter to download and install the AHCI driver from within Windows and then reboot (being sure to configure BIOS to use "AHCI" mode). That's all that's needed.

Thank you Harryc and ThinkPadophile, it worked. I noted a small speed increase in the boot time, much better.

Another problem:
In the windows add/remove programs I noted two entries, one listed 'Power Manager' and another as 'Power Management Driver'. I decided to unistall the first and after that the OSD for the volume up/down/mute disapeared. Reinstalled the latest Hotkey Features Integration and the needed versions of Access Connections and Power Manager according to this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-74261 and still no OSD on start up. I've checked the tick in the 'Show OSD' in Properties/Definitions/Advanced/ but the only way to get it is to go to the folder DRIVERS/WIN/HOTKEY/OSD and click the tposdsvc.exe. There is another identical file in the Program Files/Thinkpad/Utilities, but even placed (both, at different times) in the startup folder it doesn't work.
Some advice wellcome.

All I can tell you is that in order for the OSD to work you need the following installed;

Lenovo Power Manager
ACPI Power Management driver
Hotkey Features Integration
Lenovo Graphics Driver

In your case I'd uninstall all (4) of them if already installed and reboot. Then reinstall the latest versions of each from the Lenovo driver page.
