hello
well i have outgrown my t60 1952 a67 and found this.. as a dead t61 6457-AD1 ,my main questions are what would the display be like compared to this t60 thats a 14 in with a t7400 cpu and intel gpu 1024x 768 and with 4gb ram ( yes only 3gb available to win 7 x64).

would i be able to upgrade cpu to the t7800 or better (if poss )and the screen, a larger screen for me is better ( eyes are getting old) would this see the full 4gig of ram .
also if this is a gpu failure can it be reflowed by posh goordie i went to lenovo but believe some t61s can support santa rosa cpu or.. or result in a higher performance cpu fitted

you can see unsure about the cpu upgrade path but any t61 i go after must be able to accomodate the latest cpu revisions

thanks ianf

Straight from the horse's mouth, so to say:

Product: ThinkPad T61 6457-AD1 [change]

Operating system: All [change]

Original description: Based 6457-4XH: T7300(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled), Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Home Premium 32

a) If your eyes are not in their prime, you don't want a WSXGA+ screen, it will make everything a lot smaller than the XGA you're used to.

b) It could very well be a nVidia failure, but you should test the machine to some extent to see whether it powers on at all, and then describe what you've encountered to Nick (poshgeordie)...I'm pretty sure he'd be able to guide you from there.

Good luck.

thanks ajkula

i had a look there and found pretty much that , i like the t43 i have with the 15" display its a little under powered though and the t60 has a 14" display thats not as comfortable to use so i run an external 15" .
ok to the matter of cpu i tried to find out about this board to see if it would take the higher spec cpu beyond that of my t60 i said santa rosa although i am certain thats not the type now and have read that there is need of a motherboard that carries the thermal sensor to make use of this cpu so i wonder if this is such a board in side.

thanks ian
