V5250 Driver mod

#1 Post by Asudef » Sat Nov 27, 2010 5:36 pm

I've been considering loading modded drivers with the MobilityModder on my T60p so I can play some games.

If I do change the drivers to the x1700 ones so I can play games, is it possible to revert back to the v5250 drivers so I can use CAD again?

Btw, I haven't exactly found concrete directions on how to load the drivers, only a reference to loading Desktop ATI drivers with the tool but I've yet to find any way to reverse the process.

Maybe install a second instance of Windows, just for playing games?
If your HD is big enough, do it in a new, separate partition, or use another HD in the Ultrabay.

That's not a bad idea but I still feel like there's a better solution than that.

Maybe when I get a new HDD but wouldn't each need their own partition?

With a partition tool like Parted Magic, it's easy to shrink your current partition and create a new one (for another OS) in the free space.

Won't that require a format? I assume that the restore partition would reinstall the V5250 drivers. If that's the case, I may format in a month or so and try it that way or just install a second HDD.

Has anyone had success making the V5250 run different drivers/games decently?

You can only install ONE instance of Windows from the Recovery partition/CDs.
If you want a second partition with a second Windows, you need to load that directly from a CD/DVD.
The formatting will be done by the new install, and should not even 'touch' the restore partition or the first Win partition.
