T60 Hotkey Utility

Um, where is it??

When I run System Update I'm not given the opportunity to download the Hotkey Utility. I believe I already did the download. How can I tell if it's been properly installed? Where do I get access to it? I don't see anything pertaining to the Hotkey Utility anywhere in the ThinkVantage Productivity Center. :??:

Is the Hotkey Utility the same thing as the Keyboard Customizer Utility (I think not...)? I see that under Start Menu/Programs/ThinkVantage.

I seem to recall, that the hotkey-utility is now a part of the power manager?

The Hotkey Features Utility is still it's own separate system utility that can be downloaded here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-74261 Download the file 81vu22ww.exe file, extract it into a folder (I always extract mine into a folder I name "Drivers", on the C: root level), then go to that folder and install it from there.

Further, if you read the instructions, you will see that the Power Manager is required in order to make the Fn+F3 key combination work. Unless you already have the Power Manager, just follow the link and do the same for that driver.

I am working from Linux at the moment, so I can't check, but I am pretty sure that the Hotkey Features Utility is listed in the Add/Remove Programs if it's installed. In case it's there, and you have reason to believe it isn't working properly, uninstall it first and then reinstall it. And there is no user interface for the Hotkey Features that I am aware of. It's just works in the background and provides you with different Fn+Fx combination menus.

I'd already scoured Add/Remove programs for the Hotkey Utility and not found it.

A search finds the executable in this directory:

C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session\81vu22ww

Seems odd that it didn't install and I wasn't prompted to install it. It's just nestled in that directory with a host of files and a handful of subdirectories. :| I'll read your post again carefully and go about installing it (I presume it isn't installed, but I'm not sure). I do already have Power Manager installed. Currently, if I issue Fn + F3 I get an applet labled Power Use with a slider, one the left side is high performance, on the right side is highly energy savings. Mine is near the left side, currently.

I'm not seeing instructions in the \81vu22ww directory, but there is an install log and this is what it contains:
- - - -
[2010-11-23 18:33:32] On Screen Display
[2010-11-23 18:33:32] SUCCESS : '5.12.00'->'6.10.01'
[2010-11-23 18:33:34] ThinkPad FullScreen Magnifier
[2010-11-23 18:33:34] SUCCESS : '2.02'->'2.15'
[2010-11-23 18:33:35] Lenovo System Interface Driver
[2010-11-23 18:33:35] SUCCESS : 'Not Installed'->'1.02'
[2010-11-23 18:33:35] Lenovo Auto Scroll Utility
[2010-11-23 18:33:35] SUCCESS : 'Not Installed'->'1.00'
- - - -

I'm not at all clear, have no idea if the Hotkey Utility has been installed yet. I could double click the Setup.exe in that directory, but will hold off for now.

Ok, I turned on the T60 just to check that I didn't give any wrong information. My install is in Norwegian, so the Add or Remove Programs listing that I think refers to the Hotkey Features has a green Fn symbol and translates into something like "On screen display". You see anything like that?

If you chose to install it manually, download the file from the site in the link that I gave you. Doubleclicking it will extract it into a folder that you specify. Then go to the folder and doubleclick the Setup file, which will start the installation process. There is also an option on some of the system utilities where you check "Install now" when you extract, and it starts the install process immediately.

Edit: Some info I overlooked the first time I read your post. The On Screen Display listed in the log, is the correct application, yes. Look for that in the Add or Remove list. If it's not there, I dare say it didn't get installed properly. If it's there, and you want to play around; remove it and download/install the file I linked you to. The instructions I mentioned are on the website and not on your computer or in the file.

You're still trying to get Fn + F3 to shut off the LCD without bringing up the Power Options menu, right?

That option has to be selected manually in Power Manager. If you have you found that and it still won't work I can't help.

But if not-

1. Open Power Manager
2. In the upper right select: Switch to Advanced
3. Select the Options tab
4. Below where it says: When I press Fn + F3, select Power Off display.

Note: In all of my recent installs (clean Win XP & Win 7-not Recovery Discs), the HotKey Utility no longer appears in the Add/Remove Programs menu but the HotKeys all work as before.
