T60 Does not power off

Guys,
Need some help! My T60 (1951-43U0) will not power off with any OS (Windows 7, Ubuntu live CD, XP). SOftware power off looks like it's working, and then it just starts to reboot. If I hit the power button, it does power off, but all software power off's cause a reboot. I've changed memory. No difference. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Murray

Have you unchecked "Automatically restart" ?

In Windows XP :
Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Startup and Recovery --> click Settings button --> System failure --> uncheck "Automatically restart"

If your laptop was getting a BSOD during shutdown while the above item was checked, it would "Automatically restart".

With it unchecked, it will halt on the BSOD and give you the details that you need to debug the problem.

Are there dumps in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder ?

It seems to have nothing to do with the OS. The same thing happens with XP, Win7, Ubuntu Live CD, etc. It just seems that any OS trying to shut down the machine, instaed causes a reboot. If I hit the Power Switch, that does in fact power it off, without a reboot. In Windows, I had no BSOD or any other problems. The machine works perfectly, it just won't power down without rebooting. I lso updated the BIOS and EC ti the latest. It seems to have started after I inserted a new (actually a uses) battery. Now, it happens with Battery alone, Power alone, Power and Battery attached with any OS.
Does this bring anything to mind.

Thanks
Murray

My original questions still need answered :
- Have you unchecked "Automatically restart" ?
- Are there dumps in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder ?

If this is a hardware problem that causes a failure during any OS shutdown, then shutting off auto restart and preventing the restart may allow you to see the unseen BSOD that is occuring so fast that you don't see it during the shutdown process.

If there are dumps in the minidump folder, then they will help you solve the problem.

You might also want to try downloading and running Bluescreenview :
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

It should find your minidumps automatically, if there are any, and then hopefully show you some information about the error codes and modules involved if there are BSOD failures occurring during shutdown.
