Extending Warranty of Maintenance Services

Hi Guys,

I've been calling around like crazy to find answers, but I've been getting so many stories that I don't know anymore.
I have a T61p (Model: 64606XG) that is currently out of warranty. I want to know if I can still purchase an extended warranty. From what I've gathered so far it seems you cannot purchase/extend the warranty, but you can purchase Maintance Services. That is as far as I got. I'm stuck in a country (South Africa) where this kind of information is not easy to come by. I cannot find one call center person that tells me the same story.

This is one of the links I noticed that you seem to be able to purchase the maintenance services: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/accessories/se ... kplus.html

Can anybody help and explain if I have this correct and maybe even give me a "part number" that I need to purchase. I thought this was the one "10N3152" to upgrade 3 years carry in to 4 years, but it seems that you can only do this if the machine is still within the original warranty.

Thanks for any help

Hi rs*,,,,
You have the answers; it seems > AFAIK...'extended warranty' is ONLY VALID for items (products warranty depends of TYPE & Model) WHEN THAT ITEM IS STILL "IN WARRANTY"< once warranty runs out (without extenditions - then you can only buy SERVICE Agreements" ,,, etc

This however varies from 'country to country' or where its ORIGIN/PURCHASE was. The SAME LOGIC is applied for "service man 'tce" to any IBM product. Since Serive Agreements are , jsut as the word implies , its has its OWN TERMS and CONDITIONS.

ALSO, most THINKPADS = has MAX WARRANTY and or SERVICE LIFE = 5 years from factory ship date(month) Thinkpads bought in USA = has MAX of 5 yrs WORLD WIDE WARRANTY - not sure of this is same in SA

Hope this helps
