Reputable source for IBM T60p Fan Part?

Hi Thinkpad Forums,

I previously posted my question in this topic as an add-on. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=92705

My Thinkpad T60 has had a long history of fan problems. The original fan was replaced in 2008, and now that replacement fan has broken down. So I'd like to buy a new fan (#41V9932) and swap that in.

After browsing various online shops via Google search and trying to find my part # on lenovo's support site, I'm unable to find a reputable source to buy a replacement T60 Fan #41V9932. Perhaps I should be using a different reference # to locate it on lenovo's part retail page?

have you looked at the hardware maintenance manual (available in the support page for your thinkpad) for the part number..?

it also could be that there has been a part number change..

did you look on ebay..?

I looked at the latest manual at http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 844_04.pdf and it looks like my fan part # is also 41W0467.

Putting that into the lenovo site (http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/we ... &langId=-1) doesn't get any results. This lenovo Find Your Part # page (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ubtype=Cat) doesn't even list fans.

I guess I can go to ebay or any # of online stores that sell Fan #41W0467, but these non-Lenovo etailers have much less credibility. By less credibility, I mean that it's harder to tell if you will get a working, genuine part?

This may be an obvious question, but in terms of actually swapping out the fan, is there a forum resource on how to swap out the fan? I'm comfortable with taking it out, but I think there should be thermal grease applied in certain parts, correct?

thanks, i've swapped my fan out with the new one and put arctic5 on it

the fan is still noisy at times and i've made sure to fasten it properly. i guess in another year, i could consider shopping for a new laptop and won't get a thinkpad because of this horrible fan experience (on my 3rd fan)
