External Display Resolution

My T60 has native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I externally display 1920 x 1200 on my 24" Samsung Monitor 245BW; model: LS24HUBCFJ/XAA via the Avanced Mini Dock (250410U). I use the DVI connection on the AMD. My T60 has the discrete video card (ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5250). Both of the forementioned resolutions are 16:10.

I am considering purchase of a 27" Samsung Monitor P2770HD 27" 16:9 (1920 X 1080) with 16:9 aspect resolution. Will my T60 display properly on the new 16:9 monitor? Will I have black bands or loss of screen real estate compared to the laptop LDC? Also might yoiu know if the ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5250 is 128MB or 256MB? Please advise.

The V5250 has 256MB of dedicated memory. The graphics card is certainly powerful enough to run that monitor; I've used my T60p (same graphics as yours) to run a 50" plasma TV running at 1080p via a DVI to HDMI cable through an advanced mini dock with no problems. There are no guarantees, but it *should* work just fine.

Yes, it will work just fine. There is no necessity for the two monitors to have similar ratios.

So then I would also be OK keeping my T60 (16:10) and using with a new 27" 16:9?
