Which XP release for T60?

I have a refurbished T60 with a battery problem. I have a bit of guarantee left, but the company which sold me the laptop wants me to try Lenovo's battery maintenance software first. Unfortunately I do not have any Windows installed and the recovery partition was damaged so at the moment I do not have any installation medium for XP.

The license sticker under the machine says "Windows XP Professional Lenovo Singapore". It originally came with a Finnish XP Pro.

What kind of an XP installation disk do I require? OEM of XP Pro of any language, Finnish OEM, or some Lenovo specific disk? With or without service packs? Or do I have to get my hands on those Lenovo Recovery CDs?

Hi Pea*..
Not sure which OS you have; however T60 did also come with FACTORY LinUX
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-65367
might give u some software (PC Doc) to test system etc

Windows XP Pro = mostly what T60's came with from factory. YOU can buy RECOVERY cds from Lenovo (best options since you want Fin version) or you can google "thinkpad recovery cds" and see results (due to forum rules not allowed to do links for that supplier)
Good Luck
Cheers

You have 2 options:

1.Recovery Discs, like suggested above. These will give you everything you need of drivers, Thinkpad system software and applications. Windows still needs to be updated, if this the discs are SP2. The recovery discs I once bought online for my T43 were in english, and I believe those would have given me an OS with english language. I am not sure though, as I never used them. But you might be able to buy them from Lenovo in your own language. The drawback is that this option gives you the entire OS and software "package", and might also software you don't want or need.

2. Retail XP Pro CD, not manufacturer specific. This CD can be in any language you want, just borrow a XP Pro CD from a friend or someone that might have it in your own language if you prefer that. It will most likely not accept your COA key (The code on the sticker) right away, so you need to call Microsoft and activate manually. Windows needs to be updated, and all drivers you need for your Thinkpad needs to be downloaded and installed manually or through System Update from the Lenovo website.

As you can see, option 2 requires a little more work and knowledge about what you are doing. But I find this to be the solution that fits me best and gives me the chance to configure my system exactly the way I want.

Not sure if the battery maintenance software runs from Linux, so not sure if you want to try that. I also assume you want to use this laptop in the future, so you might want to go ahead and get the OS you want back on it. Unless you already run some other kind of OS on it.

Thanks for your answers!

I'll definitely look into that Linux release and what tools is provides.

Good thing you mentioned this. I had no idea.
