I recently got a nice C2D T60 with XGA screen. Would like to convert it into SXGA+. I presume all I need is a cable plus the LCD itself? Do I need a new inverter too?

You actually just need the LCD panel...everything else is the same, unlike prior ThinkPads.

Really, that simple? How hard is it to take one of these apart for screen change? I've done quite a few T4xs but no T6xs so far.

If you are going to replace the panel only, it's no different from an older Thinkpad. Undo the screws along the side of the lid and gently pull the bezel off, little by little. Be sure to not use excessive force, use a wide flat piece of thin steel to insert and help you with bend it apart. Be aware that the lower edge of the LCD is attached to the bezel with double sided thin tape, so take it easy and be gentle there. This tape does not reattach. I didn't put any tape back here, and it still looks good.

For the last touch, buy new screw cover stickers on eBay. The old ones are usually good to go one more time, but sometimes the glue comes off.

The only thing that I'll add is that four very small rectangular foam blocks will pop out from the left side. You may not notice them at first, but you'll notice them at some point. They usually fall on the table and you wonder where they are from. They hold down the wifi antenna lead on the left side of the LCD - all four. When reinstallng them, make sure you don't block any screw holes, or you'll be removing the bezel yet again! None are on the right, top or bottom.

The LCD swap procedure is slightly easier for a T60 than a T4x, but not much.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I will keep all this in mind. Hopefully it won't be too bad, just need to find the right panel.

I'd agree: the T60 follows the great IBM tradition of being an absolute b******d to disassemble correctly. :D

Also: be careful of the latch mechanism. It's pretty easy to seat the bezel such that it pinches the latch and stops it from sliding freely.
