Configuration to play HD 1080p on T60p

Hi,

I would like to play video recorded from a HD video recorder (Sanyo Xacti CG-20) on my T60p. It is encoded as H.264.
Using Quicktime or WMP, the video skips a lot of frames and is not synchronized with the audio.

I installed CCTP Combined Community Codec Pack, but still the video does not run flawlessly.
The CPU is always used at 100%.

What do you use to watch HD videos on you T60p? How much does it use the CPU?
Is it possible to take advantage of the video card acceleration to play HD video?

Config:
T60p 2613-HQU : Win7 32 bit, 3GB RAM, FireGL V5250, SXGA+ screen
Driver for the FireGL: 8.561.0.0

Thanks for your help

I have a T60p with T7600, 2GB, V5200, UXGA screen on Win7 32bit.
I use the software codec CoreAVC, with this codec all x264 MKV's run smoothly, with 90% CPU usage :)

Unfortunately you can´t use video acceleration with the V52x0 series, since its based on the x1x00 Ati serie. Hardware video acceleration was introduced with the Ati HD 2x00 series. So you're limited to cpu decoding, but the T7600 will do with the CoreAVC codec.

I dont know which cpu you have but what i read is that Intel t7400 and above can play 1080p h264 movies. If your cpu is lower than that you can buy a Broadcom Crystal HD card and put it in you free mini PCIe slot. Its a hardware decoding card for HD video. Costs around $50 in us.

I guess it depends on the MKV... I have a 1080p film here (about 11gigs for 2.5 hours), and my T60 with T7200 plays it with average CPU usage of about 50% (generally between 30-70%). I haven't yet encountered a real 1080P MKV that brought this computer to its knees.

I just tested my T60 with X1400 graphics, 3 GB RAM and T5600 CPU regarding 1080p movies. Even 40 GB DVD-rip of Bourne Ultimatum ran smoothly with CoreAVC and CoreAAC (for audio), CPU usage was less than 80 %). No frames skipped and it ran very smoothly.

But the FireGL V5250 dont have h.264 hardware decoding as the X1400 card has, there for you kan play 1080p h.264 with a T5600 cpu.

X1400 also doesn't have H.264 acceleration, only MPEG2.

H.264 acceleration came with HD2xxx series.
