Missing System Unit Serial Number T60p-How to fix?

I just purchased a T60p on ebay. This from a seller I have purchased from before, so I had faith. The equipment looks good, all specs are in order. Everything appears as promised.
Model T60p
Bios ver 1.13
2.33 GHz C2D
ATI FireGL V5250
Display 1680x1050 15.4"
etc.

Except, the system unit serial number is missing from BIOS. The UUID is all zeros. There is a system board SN in BIOS. There is a system unit SN sticker on the bottom of the machine. I put the system type and SN in the lenovo website and this system (or one with identical specs) comes up. I checked with both Belarc and SIW and they both do not show a system unit SN. Now I wouldn't care so much except, I cannot of course run TVSU which is a pain for me, as I want to get everything up to snuff on XP, and then eventually will install W7, and TVSU has made that process pretty quick and easy for me in the past.

I ran the Lenovo registration program, and the following came up as SN:
Serial Number TP-71 - - - -
It happily ran and uploaded my registration info to their website.

I see that Maintenance disks no longer seem to be available.

Does anyone have advice on how to get the SN back onboard? With minimal brain damage? I would like to keep the machine, otherwise, I suppose I could try for a refund and keep looking. Other than TVSU, is there any other downside to missing SN?

Thanks,
Mike

The only way that I am aware of to do this is to run the HMD. It is available only from authorized Lenovo maintenance partners. Please do not post links to the maintenance diskette here. Thank-you.

A local dealer can do it for you, as long as the model/serial combination isn't under warranty. They shouldn't charge much. I do it free, but you are a "long walk" from San Francisco.

Thanks Rich, I would love to swing by for a visit with the laptop. My wife is from San Francisco and she looks for any excuse to go back (from Cincinnati). However, thanks to a very kind gentleman, I am "as good as new".
