T60 ATI radeon x1300 graphics

#1 Post by bubbachen » Wed Feb 02, 2011 2:19 pm

I've got a 200755u with a SXGA+ screen and X1300 graphics. The screen seems a bit dark, so I've tried to calibrate brightness/gamma/contrast but can't seem to find a program that allows me to change these features. Downloading ATI Catalyst drivers don't seem to help. Any advice, recommendations, or words of belittlement?

Could simply be a degraded backlight...eg hardware, not software. The T60s never had very bright displays to begin with--and they look positively dark next to many modern machines.

I've heard that T60 displays may be darker, but I'm just trying to find out if there is software for the X1300 GPU that will allow me to calibrate color, contrast, gamma. For example, the T61p I'm typing on has Nvidia software (control panel) that allows user controlled calibration of those three properties. I just slide a bar that will brighten/darken the screen, etc. Is there something similar for the X1300? Thanks.

I'd be betting on your backlight getting weak...presuming LG Phillips 15" SXGA+ on your machine which is infamous for losing brightness faster than other IPS screens...

Have you tried this driver:

Good luck.

Screen is LP150E05-A2. It's actually quite nice, just a bit dark. I've got a new IPS UXGA screen I can drop in there, but there's another years' worth of warranty on this unit. Don't know if changing the screen will void the warranty.

It will, but if it's under warranty and the screen is dim, you may persuade them to replace it.

On my T60 w/ATI Radeon X1400 I have Catalyst Control Center installed - and the only setting I've changed is Gamma, from 1.00 to 0.75. For font smoothing tunning I use "Clear tweak" from ioIsland, with ClearType contrast setted to 1400; the brightness of the screen is at 6/7 on AC. All these settings made me pretty content with my 14" SXGA+ screen. Hope it helps.

I've had numerous LCDs swapped due to dimness. Just call, complain and don't take "no" for an answer.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the input. I'm having trouble loading the recommended software because I'm running win7 on the T60 - drivers don't want to cooperate. I may revert to XP and see if software tweaks can brighten up the screen. If not, I may send it in for replacement.
