Outdated: Modded T60P problem - Sierra MC 8790 not func.(Europe)
Posted: Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:23 am
Our second T60(p) upgrade of motherboard (ATI 256MBVideo), CPU(T7600), display UXGA flexview); WLAN (Intel 5300) and maxing out on memory (4gb) and hdd (500GB) all worked out, it is running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (quick as a lightning) like a charme.
I installed a simcard reader and a WWAN-card, too. That is where my problem starts: As I use a Zender's-Bios, the machine does not "protest" at boot, although the Sierra card MC8790 is not one of IBM/Lenovo's choice. I managed to have it recognized (?) via manual hardwareinstallation, but it seems to have worked only half way:
- As Modem the card is recognized as a sierra air card, updating drivers says latest are installed;
- As connections (com & lpt) You find sierra modem connection com-ports 4-6, diagnostic com-port 7.
On the other hand I am not able to test the card, I'm not asked to enter the PIN necessary for the connection to the provider, sierra generic does not see the card, unlocker does not find the card, although given preinformation what to look for. I covered the pin 20 using tippex fluid, as advised. No change.
What is left...
-- Cleaning registry?
-- redoing the pin 20-cover?
-- different card, if so, which one is useful for Europe and supported by Lenovo, free for use with a choosen network?
-- there seems to be an ericsson card, but I should like to have maximum speed on the road, is it capable of 7,2MB download speed?
Edit: Is there any editing to be done (AT-strings to be written , where)?
Advice badly needed! Thanks in advance
