Hi

In very close future I'm going to change my Seagate Momentus HDD into OCZ SSD drive. Did anyone from this forum make the same change and noticed any problems ? I will be grateful for the response as I'm going to buy this drive within next few days. Maybe some suggestions concerning other type of SSD better than OCZ ?

I am currently running an Intel 40GB in my T60 and I love it. It runs so well and it's quite reliable I'm finding. I have read some reviews on the Vertex series and it seems to be a fairly speedy drive.

I have the Vertex 2 in my t61p and it flies after a BIOS flash. Everything loads real quick. Windows Experience Index gives it a 7.6.

So do I need to maka a BIOS flash ? The OS will be Win XP

Not sure. I am using Win 7. There is something called "TRIM" and I'm not sure if that is supported in XP. Someone more knowledgeable on this forum or NBR will be able to help you.

TRIM is not supported in XP.
BIOS you linked is for 61 series, not 60.

My apologies. I always assumed both systems were very similar and thought the flash worked for T60 systems as well.

T61p supposedly was designed to support SATA II (3Gb) but is delivered with SATA (1.5Gb). It does have all the right chips for SATA II.

As I understand it the T60 does not have the right chips for SATA II so you'll be stuck with SATA.

If I interpret it correctly the slower Intel X25V has a speed that is only slightly higher than the T60 SATA bus and I am not worried about the difference. (still a lot faster than a standard HDD and instant boot up time with instantenous seek rtaher than 10 - 12 mS). I am putting one in for lower heat dissipation and lower noise levels.

I've just bought 32GB OCZ Onyx http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-onyx-s ... 5-ssd.html.

My system takes 10 sec to boot (counting after BIOS boot screen disappear).

Thanks Przemek, but I'm mainly working in Win XP - if this is indispensable I can change into Win 7.
So any other ideas ? Maybe Intel will be better ?

By the way - where can I find the complete set of Win7 drivers for T60p ?

I had the Intel 160 Gb one and since a few months the Vertex 2 200Gb.

Have to say I don"t notice any speed difference.
Still running XP as well, so stuck on SATAII.

But concerning TRIM there is a difference between the two: Intel ha as nifty Toolbox, you can trim manually or timed. With the Vertex, I found I had to sanitary erase the drive, I could ger trim as such to work. Maybe there's a recent solution, I haven't checked. I found sanitary moe hassle, I needed a seperate Win7 machine.

And yes, trimming does make a difference, these SSD's get a bit sluggish after a while.

Waiting desperately for Intel to release a 600 GB version for a decent price.
