Here is a dilly for ya so put on ya thinking caps!! I have 2 T61 specs are the same. One I shall call A and 1 I shall call B. I have a video problem on A which was working fine with W7 and 4gb of memory. I installed a web cam on B (XP Pro OS ) and wanted to use W7 on B so I pulled the HDD and the 2 sticks of memory from A and installed them in B. On initial boot I got a BSOD then I got a request to repair W7. Repair ran its course and was unable to fix. It suggested a restore to previous date. Fine I tried restoring a week back, unable to complete as "file is missing" 2 weeks back "back up is corrupted" 3 weeks back "restore unable to complete due to unspecified error" Now I have a pot of pics on that drive so I do not want to wipe if I can help it!!Is there any way to do a "repair install" using the W7 disc? I have done it many times in XP Pro and never lost data. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

It sounds like repair is not going to work, possibly due to some other OS corruption. Try this:

Open a command prompt using Run as Administrator. In the command window, run SFC /SCANNOW and let it complete. See if the errors persist.

If the errors persist, your best course of action is to back up the machine and re-install Windows 7.

Two things: (1) be certain (beyond certain) that you have backed up everything before doing anything above. and (2) make sure you are running only Lenovo drivers for that machine and 64-bit compliant software. Many people (apparently) think Windows 7 64-bit is just like XP. It is not even close and most all the software needs to be upgraded.

Try going into BIOS on the 'B' machine, into Config, and then into SATA controller. Toggle the setting for AHCI and compatibility mode, exit and reboot. In other words, if it is set for compatibility, change it to AHCI. If it is set for AHCI change it to compatibility.

jdhurst ,harry I am totally hosed!!! I have no idea WTF is going on ever since I changed the SATA thing and changed it back I have had grief lots of BSOD, but that all pales in comparison to my problems now!!!
The XP OS will no longer boot it says "There has been a signature failure press F11 for recovery" do that and I just keep getting the same message "There has been a signature failure" it keeps scrolling and scrolling.
I switched over to my W7 drive and after a failed reapir I go to command prompt type in SFC /SCANNOW and it say a repair action requires reboot so I do that and I am back into repair!!
OK time to beat the crap out of this, so I change the bios to boot from cd drive pop in the W7 64 bit disc and reboot guess what? I get a screen to run repair or start windows normal. Start windows normal goes to a BSOD. WTF is going on or better yet HTF do I fix one of these *&^%^&**%$#@@# drives!! Thanks!!
