My son has a T61P and hasn't used it for a while and cannot remeber the password needed at start up. He didn't create password/start up disk. Is there another way to reset the password.
Thanks,
John

There are 3 passwords. According to the service manual. the hard drive password cannot be bypassed. The supervisor password requires motherboard replacement. If you just have a power-on password, unplugging, removing the battery and removing the cmos battery will reset. BUT if you clear the power-on password and also have a supervisor password, the machine will not be able to start without motherboard replacement. The disk password can be identified by the disk icon next to the lock with a "1" in it. The power-on and supervisor passwords look the same from the outside.

You did not mention which password was forgotten. It is your lucky day if it is just the Windows login password. Here are some recovery tools for a lost Windows password:

If the password was setup via the BIOS then Richk gave you good advice.

If it's not a Windows problem, check your PM.
