Finding a 39T0958 NMB

#1 Post by micah » Sat Feb 26, 2011 9:48 am

My keyboard on my T60p (2623-D8U) has gone south, dropping letters. I've been looking for a new keyboard, and although I seem to have an ALPS model, the going preference here is the NMB, so I'd like to give that a shot. However, I'm having a hard time finding one to buy. Does anyone have any tips? I can search for the model number on ebay, but most of the auctions don't show the backside so that I can compare it with the NMB model. I've sent off quite a few ebay questions, but no luck yet.

Seeing that Lenovo will send a re-stickered keyboard, rather than a NMB, I wonder if there is any seller out there that can be trusted to send the correct model?

My other question is... should I avoid used or refurbished keyboards and try only to get a new one?

Well, if your T60 is still under warranty, and if your keyboard warrants a replacement, then I'd suggest to contact Lenovo Support and ask for a new keyboard. Keep as a spare what you receive. Then, in parallel, you could get another keyboard of your taste. In the latter case, I would personally surely go for a new one, and not a refurbished (what does "refurbished" really mean... anything!). Check e.g. this new T60 NMB keyboard (according to this post the T60 NMB-brand keyboard has P/N 39T0928 and FRU 39T0958 so the eBay advertisement seems correct).

Alternatively, and according to Keyboard service parts - R60, R60e, R61, R61i (14.1 inch and 15.0 inch standard screens) get the 42T3143, e.g. here. You may perhaps also benefit from reading the thread T60 compatible keyboards and the posts/threads referenced to therein.

PS: Although you don't ask about it, I nevertheless would like to point your attantion to the thread T60 is so slow, help me figure out a SSD ultrabay solution! and in particular this post ... where the suggestion is that you should consider upgrading your mechanical HDD (provided, of course, that this is what you have now) to an Intel X25-M solid-state disk! :-) Notice that Intel is providing a free version of the Acronis disk-cloning software; see this post.

Good luck with your "upgrade(s)"! :thumbs-UP:

Personally, I think the Chicony T60 boards (FRU 42T3273) are the best. Fortunately, they're also pretty easy to find.

I do have a lightly-used NMB board though if you're interested. PM me if you want it.
