I have the following items in my boot order. Might anyone be able to tell me the difference between 3 & 4? And what is 8?

Lastly, I have an eSATA card in the express card slot. Are any of the items below able to be used to boot from a HDD connected via the eSATA connection?

1 ATAPI CDO: C300-CTFDDAC256MAG-(S1) my 256 SSD
2 ATA HDD1:
3 ATAPI CD1:
4 ATAPI CDO:HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-4
5 USB HDD

3&4 = 2 different DVD/CD types (diff hardware) you might have inseted into the 'secondary slot" of your thinkpad. Its irritating this often added to BIOS for boot otions etc

8 =LAN = Ethernet port bott ( boot via some other network dri ve..

None of TPs that I know that have STD BIOS would boot from eSata ports or CARDBUS/Express card slot ...... but USB boot is possible from buoilt in USB prts. AFAIK , even if you add a USB port in CARDBUSS/EXPRESS CARD SLOT it wont boot via that USB port ,,,,,,,,,,, but I havent rtested any of the newer Tor W series of that with Windows 7
