Model: T61 (7658-CTO)
OS: Windows 7

I would like to upgrade my internal hard drive to any thing more than 250GB. Please could you recommend the compatible model.

Last year I upgraded to seagate 250GB 7200rpm but looks like it is not compatible, laptop goes into sleep mode after using it for few hours and it is quite noisy and also produces lot of heat.

i've had nothing but good luck with hitachi drives. my t60p is equipped with the 500gb/7200rpm model. fast, quiet & big. others here have had good luck with western digital blacks. i've got one of those in my x61t. so far, so good.

hth.

Another vote for the Western Digital Scorpio Blacks. Fast, not too noisy, and great warranty.

same thing here...

My T60p came with a seagate 250GB 5400rpm and and replace it with a Momentus 500gb 7200 and an ultrabay slim adapter for the Hitachi 7K200 HDD

My backup T42p have a Hitachi 7K100 as main drive + 5K120 on the ultrabay and has perform well w/o any hiccups all those years in used.

Go HITACHI !!!!!! 7200rpm models

My Western Digital Scorpio Black 3200BEKT is fast, but very noisy on idle (I can hear the spinning noise within a distance of 1m). Now I am thinking to replace it by a 500GB 7200rpm Hitachi drive.

With respect to a new HDD for your T61, you may want to see the suggestions pointed to in this post.

Notice that you may speed up your T61 significantly if implementing the T61p bios hack for ICH8M SATA-II 3 Gbps.

My vote - Seagate Momentus XT 500GB SATA/300 7200rpm 4GB 32MB - IMHO the only sensible choice in price/performance category.

The next in line - SSD.
