T61 not booting (mobo dead?)
T61 not booting (mobo dead?)
I'm guessing the mobo is dead, but I thought I'd run it by people just in case anyone had other ideas. When I try to start the computer the power and battery and/or AC (as applicable, doesn't matter if its plugged in, with or without battery) LEDs come on and nothing else. No beep codes, no hard drive activity, and nothing on the display. If I remove the RAM I get the 1-3-3-1 missing/bad RAM beep code. I tried both RAM sticks individually in both slots and there is no improvement in any combination. Removing the hard drive and DVD drive had no effect, with or without RAM. I've also tried the various methods of removing the battery and pressing/holding the power button a certain number of times/length. From my understanding the problem isn't related to the 'nvidia issue' because I'm not getting the 1 long/2 short beep code (correct me if I'm wrong). Am I right that the motherboard is probably toast or could it still be something else?

There isn't much more you can do. It is hard to diagnose from 3000 miles away, but it sounds like the motherboard is dead.

The nVidia issue is independent of beeping.
You could also e.g. have blown a fuse.
Try and also remove the wifi and modem/BT cards.
It also helps us a lot if you give your 7-character TYPE and PRODUCT ID from the sticker on the laptop bottom.

6457-A68 is the type/product ID. I'll try removing the wifi/BT tomorrow when I have more time.

Another thing to try: use another AC adapter, yours might be 'shot'.
Or try another wall socket, maybe that's the problem (some mice love wire insulation...).
