Was there any problem associated with this version of motherboard (cold solder/other)?
Had any massive replacement action of this type taken place?
According to my information that was the most powerful GPU ever built into T60, T60p 15,1'' had max v5200 (x1600). Was the heat problematic in any way?

Heat is a problem with all V5200/5250 GPUs. TPFC and NHC are quite good in making it tolerable, though.
No recalls, no epidemic-size issues. VRAM corruption on some of these boards have been reported, but quite rare.

I did a mod on my T60p (V5200) and removed thermal pad on the GPU (left it there for NB) and bent the heatpipe a bit so it sits flush with GPU (pad on NB is also very flexible, lets the heatsink to be pushed more downwards).
Applied thin layer of thermal grease and it idles now well below 60 degrees (usually around 55-56) according to TPFC. Under full load it never goes past 72-73 degrees C. CPU is T7200 (idle around 42-44, load 55-56). CPU is undervolted with NHC but I use TPFC only for occasional monitoring, no fan usage control because fan doesn't work most of the time anyway and if it does, it's on low speed.

is this specific to the 5200 or 5250 boards? or affecting both?
thanks.

I've personally experienced it on several V5200 boards...I think there was one with V5250 as well but couldn't swear on it right now...one X1400 as well...
