T60 won't detect wireless access points when not plugged in

#1 Post by bcg0722 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 8:23 pm

Hello all:

I've had a weird problem plaguing me: If my computer is not plugged in, my wireless access card disconnects form my wireless network and can no longer detect wireless networks. It doesn't mater which network, if I am home or at work, this is always the case. If I am plugged in and pull the power cord, it will automatically disconnect, and even if I plug back in my computer will not detect a router until I put my commuter on standby and turn it back on. I imagine this is some sort of power saver configuration but i cannot figure out how to turn it off. Anyone else have this problem? Ive never had this problem with any other laptop and I've owned several. Ethernet connections are not affected by this.

Another weird thing that happens is that if I disconnect and reconnect my power cord my ethernet card acts like its discovered a connection for a split second and animates the ethernet icon (even when no ethernet cord is connected). after a couple of seconds it stops and puts the red x back on the ethernet icon. I dont know if this helps diagnose the problem or makes it more confusing.

welcome to the thinkpad forums.

which os are you using? how good is your signal strength when ac-connected? does the drop happen regardless of wireless signal strength?

on my t60p running win7, there's a wireless setting in the advanced section of the power scheme. one of the choices is to put the wireless card into low power when on battery. maybe you're dropping enough wireless radio power on a low signal connection to cause a disconnect?

Hey Sarbin, thanks for the reply.

Im running xp and the drops occur even when Im at full wireless signal strength, although im sure something similar to what you mentioned is occurring (a power saver configuration cuts power to the wireless card, even though the wireless light light on my panel remains on).
