Which graphics card is in the T60? Can it be changed?

The T60 has one of these three graphics chips:

* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 (64 MB)
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (128 MB)

Only way to change from one to another would be to swap motherboards.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

I've heard negative things about the integrated graphics. I'm used to the T43. What are the opinions on the X1300?

T43 also came with both Intel and ATi graphics, just like T60.

Personally, my "favourite" card for the T6x generation is X1400 which has enough guts for more advanced applications, but does not run as hot as V5200/V5250...

Other than less performance (but stil good) compared to the ATI options, what negatives have you heard? Postives include 1) very good peformance for business apps, 2) cool running, 3) lower power consumption than discrete graphics, and 4) reliable. T60's with integrated graphics are great machines, IMHO.

If you need graphics power, I agree that the ATI X1400 is the best balance of power/heat/power consumption.

My T-60 has ATI and it does whatever I want it to do, which is everything but gaming. I've always insisted that gamers in the
family use the perfectly good Playstation 3 or the Ninetendo DS I have for kids to play games on. They simply work, do not destroy my keyboards or total my O/S system.

I do have my eye on what is in my opinion the best ultraportable made, the Alienware M11x (11.4"). If Dell ever
fixes the fatal flaw hinge defects and makes sure the factory does a better job of fluxing the discrete graphics chip
I'm getting one, not for games but as a powerful general notebook.

So far, they have techs and sales lying to buyers, claiming the flaws have been fixed (sort of smells like US Auto makers and Toyota). I know. I keep up with the M11x threads at the gaming forums and I call Dell tech & sales every two weeks.

Where did we get all these CEOs who care only about profits, a limo and a huge paycheck? Increasingly, they aren't too picky about the laws they break -- examples - Gates, Enron, Jobs, Meg Ryan, Bernie Maddow, etc. Maybe they grew up hearing about Joe Kennedy getting rich smuggling illegal booze, buying his son the presidency and Ted Kennedy killing his mistress-secretary, getting away with it and dying a working man's hero --all without doing a day's labor in his lifetime. Makes the idea of Hitler getting
a Humane Society award for kindness to animals and promotion of vegetarianism seem not so far fetched.
