T60 battery problem :(

Actually it probably doesn't apply specifically to a T60 but it's the Thinkpad battery I'm suddenly having a problem with.

It's a fairly new IBM/OEM battery (not that many cycles) and this just started and happened pretty suddenly. The symptoms are thus:

Starts out 100% charge, useful for about 15-20 minutes with the usage indicator dropping as you would expect.

Then all of a sudden the indicator drops to oh 6% and I get a low battery warning.

Then it takes a 'normal' amount of time (hour+ or so) to recharge back to 100%.

I've tried the 'battery maintenance' utility in the Power Manager (completely discharging, recharging fully) but that didn't help.

I can accept my battery is probably toast but just curious what the problem might be (dead cell, etc.) and how it might have occurred. i.e. if it is something I could have avoided had I treated it differently somehow.

Hmmmm...if it is fairly new then it would be covered by warranty. :)

If it is fairly old then you probably need a new battery. Your description sounds to me to indicate that you should locate a new battery for your ThinkPad. The good news is there are some very good deals available for batteries on eBay or perhaps you can find one here on the Forum Marketplace.

Good luck...

as Bill says, it may be covered.
ibm/lenovo batteries come with one year. does that describe your battery?
